The Ash Sepulcher is no more. The once-mighty Tradition chantry was felled by the Technocracy in January 2004. The assault weakened the Technocracy, but completely erased the Traditions from the DC area. Those that fled were all caught or killed. Their acolytes went into hiding. Their resources either were seized or were incredibly well hidden.

This is a cold, dark land of opportunity, sparse but for the hopes and dreams of something more to come. A group of mages has taken the re-establishment of a chantry in Washington as their quest. They have begun their work under the name "Phoenix" to symbolize the rebirth of a mighty force from fire and ash.

The name for the second arc of Book of Ashes is "The Book of Earth and Stone" - representing the metaphorical foundation built upon the ruins of the Ash Sepulcher.

The Book of Ashes is a live-action game set in Washington DC in the world of Mage: the Ascension, using a modified MET rules-system. Begun (IRL) in suburban Maryland in March 2004, this is a Rebel Scum production.
