Looks interesting. However - out of action is killed in the main rules. Must
admit, as only an occasional player the move sequence still gets me a bit, but
the two 11-12 year olds who alos play (and win all the time) dont seem to have a
problem.

Guys

After the recent completion of a platoon of 15mm Critical Mass Game walkers I
felt inspired to see how they would do in a Stop-Motion movie up against some
GZG vehicles :) Here's one for your entertainment :)

Hey guys, just painted up some of the 15mm old crow figures. They are great,
well detailed and good poses. Will use as Imperial troops or for segregation era
games.
Pictures in the segregation folder.

Looking at them, because of the legs and hips, I figure they are no more
armoured on the side than on the front. My problem with the arm weapons is that
they are quite slim barrels so that's why I was thinking Laser Cannon, but yes
you are right, they wouldn't last long in any sort of engagement with a half
decent tank. I'll keep all the stats the same I think with the exception of the
arms which I'll upgrade to having a Beam Cannon in each.

Kind regards

Ian

Hi Ian,
Great models, well painted. I like the look of them.
As to stats, according to the vehicle builder rules, if you are looking at
classing the vehicle as either a hull class 4 heavy walker or heavy Mecha
(assuming a heavily armoured compact chassis)
Heavy mecha gives more main gun spaces and auxilliary spaces (4 and 7
respectively), although the slightly heavier armour- than standard you are
proposing (A heavy mecha should have front=M-VA and sides/ rear =L-VA) should
probably incur a penalty to weapon spaces or movement rate.

Fitment looks ok to me, but i would be worried than none of the weapons fitted
(other than 20mm CPP) would dent the armour of an armoured vehicle above class
2.
I have fielded vehicles before and realised the weapon fittings were
underpowered considering the vehicle size, so now always try to mount at least 1
'total' power weapon in a vehicle this size.

With 4 main gun spaces you could have 2x rail gun in there, or 2x sun cannon and
a beam cannon for close range massive firepower.

The 7 aux spaces can then be used to mount the listed equipment you mention ( 2
spaces used up for the sensor array, pintle mount) and still leave room (5
left) for the HMG (in pintle), 20mm cannon (single)and 2x laser cannon.
This would be an expensive vehicle to field however, and i would always try to
match armament to the actual look of the model vehicle.

Looking at the size of the models, i would probably personally class them as
medium mecha (hull class 3) and go from there on the tank builder chart, page
32.

Hope that helped
regards
Neil

Guys

Just got a platoon of new Critical Mass Games walkers completed.

You can see some photos of them on my blog:
http://vultureswargamingblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/15mm-walkers-finished.html

The question is, what stats should I use for them ?

I'm thinking:

Vehicle Category: Legged Mecha
Arrmour:
Front: M-VA
Side: M-VA
Rear: L-VA
Propulsion: Legged
Jump Pack: No
Crew: 2
Passengers: Nil
Weapon - Pintle Mounted: HMG
Weapon - Body: Single or double fit 20mm CPP Auto-Cannon
Weapon - Arms: 1 x Laser Cannon in each.
Auto-Defence: No
Sensor 1: MAD
Sensor 2: Sensor Array (Optional fit)
Smoke Dispensor: No
Shields: Multi-shield (MS)

Regards to all

Thanks guys for your interest.Sorry for not reacting earlier.

I just uploaded a version saved has an Excel file. It works fine in Open Office
but in Excel? I don't know. I hope drop-downs work. Since so many showed
interest I added support weapons and made some changes. You can see my changes
when looking at the History tab.

I hope you wont be disappointed. Aliens are not included, there are no vehicles,
aircraft or Heavy weapons. I made this to simplify Unit creation for me and my
son but I hope it will be usefull to you.

Please tell me of any mistake mistaken rule interpretation.

Thanks

Have fun

From Open Office save as XLS. I have a very complex XLS sheet I can open in both OO and M$ office. The only thing that dose not work in the macros.

Give it a try.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your interest in our products.

The prices will range from $12.99 - $15.99 per vehicle, when sold individually.
A dollar less each, if you purchase a platoon of four vehicles.

We will also be offering some Battle Packs as well, which should reduce the unit
prices a bit more, and/or provide free items like more weapons options (short
and long-barreled versions, in some cases), detailing bits, nap of the earth
flight bases, etc. I'm waiting to see the actual cost of the vehicles before
releasing more info on those, but they will be a mix of Grav Tanks, APC's/IFV's,
and Recon-Scout or Tank Hunter vehicles, etc., so you can have a balanced force
on the tabletop, to take on your enemies.

By providing you with a range of options for the weapons, and the ability to
position the turrets in different spots along the centerline of the hull, e.g.
fore and aft, you can customize your tanks in order to use the same vehicle for
different factions, if desired. For example, you can position the turret near
the center of the vehicle for one look, with a short-barreled weapon; and then
position the same turret further aft, while adding a longer-barreled weapon on
the turret, or vice versa.

If you use our recommended rare-earth magnet mounting technique for your
weapons, you can switch them out at any time, for a different look. You can
have a short-barreled laser, or blaster weapon on your tank, or a long-barreled,
heavy plasma gun, instead. Changing weapons before a game will just take a few
seconds.

See here for more info on our range, and additional photos:

I hope that helps.

Awesome looking tanks, I like the streamlined oval shapes.
Could you give us an idea of the costs per tank please?
I can think of a couple of Beamstrike races these could be used with, and they
do stand out as different from what is currently on the market.
Cheers for posting here

Hey,
For me, have always used individual based 15mm figures, identification is by
figure painting and army colour- coordination. also used diffently flocked/
static grass painted bases so you can tell different armies apart. Never needed
to use squad markers etc but then my bigggst games have only included around 60
figures total.
cheers

Hi everyone,

We will be releasing a new range of Sci-Fi Grav Armor vehicles soon.

See the following link for more info on them:

http://dropshiphorizon.blogspot.com/2009/10/future-shape-of-things-to-come.html

I will also be posting some photos here soon, as well, for your viewing
pleasure.

The orange tank is a later variant of the ones shown in gray primer, and has a
smoother, more streamlined hull. The circles located on the sides of the hull
and turret contain passive defense weapons which are:

- large shotgun/cannister shells, which fire automatically to defeat incoming
shells and missiles, or enemy infantry (friendly infantry have IFF chips, to
keep them from being targeted);

- smoke launchers which both obscure the target, and degrade or defeat lasers
and other energy weapons;

- small, micro-missiles, which can attack infantry, vehicles, or other targets;

- and other top-secret defenses which we are not permitted to discuss.

That is why more coverage is not needed over the entire vehicle hull. A
combination of the above are carried on every vehicle, in order to be able to
defeat all threats.

The larger patterns on the gray-primed vehicles can either be older variants of
the above, or reactive/ablative armor.

You get to decide what fits in with your Sci-Fi background.

We hope you like them.

As for size, these are large vehicles, e.g. the Type 13 Heavy Grav Tank is about
the same length as a GZG High-Tech, or Advanced Heavy Grav Tank, but is about
35% - 50% wider, respectively. It is about 85mm's long (not including the
plasma gun barrel), and 54mm's wide.

Feel free to contact me about the range, if you have any questions, or would
like to place an order. I will be happy to assist you.

These should be available for sale in the next few weeks.

Does anyone in the group actually own one of the original Martian Metals Grav Tanks, grav APCs or the songbird air-rafts?  If so, would it be possible to get some photos of the models posted?  If anyone is interested in selling any of these items, I will be more than happy to negotiate a fair price for them as well.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

Given the price of 15mm figures, I just fix them
up into permanent formations and then field all
or part of that formation in a game. It does not
cost a huge lot to have forces like that and I
have collected rather a lot of figures over the
years. My figures are mainly Laserburn figures.
I identify the different units in my Imperial
troops by the colour of the crest on their helmets.
Officers and other types are identifiable by the
colour of their shoulder tabs. All figures in a
unit will be of the same training quality, so I
can safely keep a note of training level on a
rosterand identify each unit safely enough to be
sure which I am referring too.You might do something
similar with your figures. Paint sergeant's stripes
on some figures for officers, or use a coloured
shoulder tab, a blob/symbol on the helmet or some
other identifiable system. Medics might have a
white armband, possibly with a red cross or crescent.
Each unit could have a different coloured blob
representing a unit badge on their arms or one
shoulder tab might be coloured to indicate the
unit. Perhaps a selection of ideas like this might
work.

Hope this helps,
Ruarigh

To back up Ruarigh's take on this, I started out
individual bases, I've since gone to this convention,
my ten man squads are on 3 man square stands. with
the officer on an individual square stand, all specialist
types (medics,Junior officers, scouts, are on individual
bases. Company Commanders and radio operators, sniper and
spotter, light crew served weapons, and a few others are
on two man rectangular stands. Battalion Command are on a
larger rectangular stand of 3 figures. Heavy crew served
weapons are on the same rectangular stands (only turned to
short end as front) with a 3 man crew. Artillery are on
standard square stands by the FOW guys. I also do my 3 man
engineer stands on circular bases. The up side of this is
at a glance you know what is what on the table, the down side
is so does your opponent...)

First of all, HI and thank you for creating these Open Source rules and
formatting them in a convivial manner. I hope one day I'll be able to
contribute.

Currently, I'm preparing a game with my son, painting (or repainting) old
Traveller 15mm mini. I'm looking for a way to visually identify units and
abilities. 15mm doesn't leave much room for tags. I'd like to have : faction
identification by a colour + a unit and individual ID (Unit A, soldier 5 would
be A5), a Training level marker, and a specialty identifier (Leader, sniper,
medic). Ideally, these could be updated by changing the counter. Right now I'm
thinking of using small printed strips of paper held by some blue temporary
putty. Or build some tiny counter made of epoxy resin also held by the blue
stuff. Well, I'm still hunting for clever ideas. I'd be happy to hear your
suggestions.

Thanks

Welcome to new members of Beamstrike, hope you are trying the rules out with
your 15mm figures!

Please feel free to feedback rules suggestions, gameplay reports, painting/
modelling tips etc to the group. Note also that this spin-off rule system is a
daughter system of the old 'Imperial commander' rule set.
See 'afewgonadsmore' and 'laserburn' yahoo groups for more information.

Welcome to the group, enjoy!

Hi Neil,

Thanks for the quick response.

Sounds in line with what I was considering, which is reassuring.

I would propose the following as well:

-2 for troops using grav/jet/rocket belts, while firing, since presumably,
though moving faster, their movement will be smoother than for troops moving on
the ground;

-1 for troops going prone, e.g. protects as for soft-cover, when lying on the
ground.

I am a little concerned about that reducing the overall chances to hit, but
given many of the weapons, and an average, or better soldier training level,
that shouldn't be a huge issue.

Probably more of a concern for untrained troops.

If pressed, I imagine I can just adjust all of the To-Hit values by one, or two,
to make up for that, if needed, subject to agreement by the players in advance
of play.

Best regards,

Rob
