Has anybody ever done a fix of the bug in Bard's Tale I for the PC,
where your points don't regenerate in the Adventurer's Guild?

Hi,

Been noticing that I've been getting spam coming from the Bard's Tale
Compendium yahoo group. So to whomever is in charge i.e. moderator or
owner, please set the membership application level to a higher level
so that we don't get these spammy emails from bots. Thanks.

Nice to see you here, Seth!
I bet this information would be greatly appreciated around here. Just
get in touch with some moderator.

Hi,

I am not mod but those spamming accounts are not neccessarily bots,
they are every here and then real people who are hired to do their
spamming masters evil deeds. You'll see those guys where normal bots
can't get in and human interaction is needed.

Would be nice to see them kicked anyway. Cheers.

Yeah, the couple of spam posts we have had did come from valid Yahoo
accounts; either real paid people, or bots that know how to break
Yahoo's sign-up security... I ban 'em when I see 'em, of course (but I
think they expect that, because they rarely post more than once anyway,
alas!)

The only other option is strict moderator-only pre-approval of every
single post... but I don't think that is necessary -- only a couple of
spam messages have slipped through in six months (and lets face it, in
modern spam terms that's "practically none," really, ha!) I'd prefer
not delay or miss out on the messages of someone new who is trying to
honestly contribute... "They may take our e-mail, but they'll never
take our freedom!" ;)

Speaking of Bard's Tale....There has been allot of activity over at
the Adventurer's Guild about a Reverse Engineering Project for the
Bard's Tale. A few members are trying to figure out the code so that a
decent BT construction set can be made for the C64. They've figured
out how to add & change walls & doors. Looks like they are making some
good progress. Check out the Tales of the Unknown and the Construction
set sections at the board.

Does anyone know if there's a download of Bard's Tale for Window's

Hi, You will need to use an emulator to run the Bard's Tale games.
There are many different versions of the game so which emulator to use
will depend on what version of the game you want to play. DOS? Apple
IIGS? Amiga? C64? Apple II? You can view info on some emulators at the
link below

Bri,

Thanks. I had downloaded the DOSBox emulator but don't know how it
works with the .exe file. When I run the emulator, it opens a box with
no command prompt. Not sure what to do from here.

Not sure why your DOSBox doesn't have a command prompt. It should.
Maybe it wasn't installed correctly. Anyways if you don't want to use
a command prompt to mount the drive and set up access to the .exe then
you can use a "Front End" which puts a GUI onto Dosbox and you can
just use the mouse to point and click to set it up. I use D-Fend
Reloaded with DOSBox 0.72. You can download both from the D-Fend
Reloaded website. Both progams come in one downloadable package and
the two programs are preset up to work with each other. You should
have it up and running in no time.

Bri,

I was wring stating that the DOSBox doesn't have a prompt. Two windows
open, one of which does have a Z:\ prompt. I'm just not sure what to do
with it at this point.

I downloaded D-Fend and it's update, and when I attempt to run the
program, it freezes. I have to use task manager to shut it down.

I wonder if Burger Becky Heineman would be able to help out with that
project; she's the programmer of Bard's Tale III, and still active in
online geekdom -- she's got a programming blog at:

http://burgerbecky.livejournal.com/tag/code

...and a general home page at: http://www.burgerbecky.com/

Ya should put those dudes in touch with her, eh?

Hi,

I first played Bard's Tale II on the Amiga some 15-20 years ago and
have just downloaded all three games recently. I was just wondering
what characters people thought made up the ideal party?

Does everyone use a Warrior, is a Rogue worthwhile, what about a Monk?
These are things I never really found out years ago and was wondering
what everyone else thought.

My ideal party is usually a Paladin, Monk, Hunter, Bard, and two magic
users. The Monk isn't great at higher levels, since he's almost completely
unmagical, but he's a great one on one fighter, and the fact that he needs
no equipment means that he can carry a lot.

In Thief of Fate, I replace the Hunter with a thief.

The installer insists on windows media center 9 . And will not continue
installation even though an upgraded media center 11 is installed.
Tried to install 9, but vista will not install a lower version.

Hi Seth,

Re: your first question: You will need to use an emulator to get the Bard's
Tale Construction Set to run on XP. If you want to run the DOS version then you
need to use the dos emulator "DOSBox" There is also an Amiga version of the set
but you need to have the Amiga ROM with an Amiga Emulator. Either that or a
working Amiga Computer to use it.

Re: your second question: The BTCS download should also contain the adventure.
Try downloading at the Adventurer's Guild.

I am sure (hopeful) there is a simple answer to the following. Playing
Bard's Tale 1 (as an homage before I begin the 3rd installment) and I
can not figure out how to use a torch or lamp in dungeons. I have
tried:
1) equiping them on one character
2) equiping them on all characters
3) equiping them and making sure i have nothing else in that
character's hands

Spells work to illuminate the dungeon (I have only just gone into the
first dungeon (wine cellar)).

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

You will need to (use) the torch. Press the (u) button while in a dungeon. Then
click the number of the character with the torch, then select the torch.

Hello,

I downloaded an image of Bard's Tale I for the Commodore 64. I use the latest
version of ccs64 and I paid for my registration. However, I can only create two
new characters. When I try to delete characters on the roster, the characters
reappear when I do a listing again. Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks.
