A couple of people have *said* they were going to try to get it to run under
Windows, but no one has ever written back to say they were successful or
what tweaking was required.

I made it work on windows using Apache 5.8.ect. for windows. It has a
function called ISAPI which uses API's instead of CGI's and was there for
supposed to run faster but I gave up because it was WAY over my head.
Anyway, using Perl and Apache together I was able to get the CGI version
to run.

Linux 8.0 RedHat
I followed the instructions in the Readme file. The directory for
BARP is /home/vector/barp. The problem is running the perl script,
here is the output...
[vector@linux01 barp]$ perl barplib.0.3.3/install.pl /home/vector/barp
What is the path to the installed Barp directory?
Location: /home/vector/barp
What is the path to the new library files?
Library: [barplib.0.3.3]
tar cf - * | tar x --directory "/home/vector/barp//home/vector/barp" -
-atime-preserve
tar: /home/vector/barp//home/vector/barp: Cannot chdir: No such file
or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
I sent Eric an email, not sure when he will get back to me.
The instructions are in the README file included with the download. Since
you cannot open the file, you can view a copy at
http://www.exelana.com/barp/README
The files are gzip'ed. You will need a program that knows how to decompress
that format. On a Unix-style system that would be gunzip. On Windows, WinZip
will do it.
Hope that helps.

Hiya, I just downloaded the 2 files required to RUN the game. I cant
open the files because I dont have the right program to read it.
What do I do now pls. Is there any step by step doc. that will show
me how to set and run it?
There is a significant security hole in the access protections to the administrative pages in version 0.3.3 of the Barp library. I will not describe the nature of the bug here to slow down attacks on systems that are running version 0.3.3. (For those who care, the version on http://www.barponline.com has already been fixed.)
Download the updated file from http://www.exelana.com/barplib/admin-v3.cod and use it to replace gamecgi/admin/admin-v3.cgi. You will have to rename the file to install it.
Note: the tarball containing the library has also been updated on http://www.solution123.com/barp/ and on my site for anyone who has not already downloaded the code.
This version contains all changes made to the game since the prior release in June 2002. Substantial portions of the game have been rewritten and so much stuff has changed or been added that I've lost track of most of it. If you're running the game, I strongly recommend installing this version. Your game will be significantly more stable and run faster than it did with version 0.3.2.
The code and data are now distributed separately. You can install the code and keep your old data files. If you've changed the maps or added your own, this is probably what you want to do. Note that the maps are the same ones distributed in June and do not include changes made by the immortals and gods to the game at www.barponline.com. Those versions of the maps MAY be distributed at a later time, but there are no plans at the moment to do so.
Work will now begin on Beta 4. Player files for Beta 4 will NOT be compatible with Beta 3. Therefore, when (or if) you make that transition, you will have to reset your game and delete all players. There is a feature in version 0.3.3 to allow players to reserve their character names for Beta 4. I have no idea when Beta 4 might be released. If you're interested in:
- discussing ideas about Beta 4
- play testing Beta 4
- writing some code for Beta 4
play the game at www.barponline.com and join the conversation in the Discussion List.
Im not that good with everthing, and everyime i try to upload it it
just doesnt show up....
Can anyone tell me whati did wrong, or tell me what i need to do..
Thanks,
-Gamerzz
Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm running it on a local server which
isn't accessiable to the web. That is why I included Tony's Barp, it
seemed to be having the same problem. Man I dont know why I wrote
that. Tony's is: exelana.com/barp/index.html
Sorry, it was a long night.

Okay. The server and Perl and BARP are all working together.
But when I log in I get a process error: A processing error has
occurred.
I get the same error when I log in to Tony's BARP Game
(www.exalena.com/barp/index.html)
The first thing that happens when I log in at www.barponline.com
after the game screen comes up is the WHO command ("you're the only
player" or a list of players currently logged in, you know).
This doesn't happen. The last "file" in my access log file is:
actions-v3.cgi blahblah playercommand-who blahblah.
What is wrong?
Thanks Eric K. aka elegos
Tony? is the top bar for images? If so ... maybe the images are not
accessible?

I just tried it ... and the blue screen stays there .... no javascript
error either.
Seems like the loading counter is not there ... I did not look at the
