3.39.2008 Personalize-A-Bookcase
Hello there! Jukia here with a new creation.
Personalize-A-Bookcase
I have created a couple of "empty" bookcases that you can take and
personalize. These bookcases have nothing on the shelves. Within the
Rar is a bmp of what is originally on the bookshelves. Feel free to
modify and recolor these bookcases to your hearts content. If you do
use them please give me some credit.

Enjoy these new objects, and have fun personalizing. If you would like
further instruction on how to modify and recolor objects let me know,
I plan to create a tutorial to help you out (please ask me and I will
make it).
ENJOY!

I agree with you. I wish there were a tutorial on how to make the
changes so that we can all give it a try and help each other and not
take a chance on making a Sim suicidal or die immediately. The "Shoo"
action is one I want to get rid of.

So, how is The Sims 2? My finances as a student (not to mention time)
has so far prevented me from seeing if it is suitable for my
experiments... any opinions?
Thanx Much =)

I have downloaded many neat thing for my game from simlogical.com. I especially like the Visitor enabler..this when turn on let visitor that come to your home, like say a neigbor have power that if they live there.they cook at your home stay over night,it will even have there car pool pick them up and drop them off at your house.I use it in in my away from home alot such as downtown, unleashed, ect. And if you used the visitor controller with the visitor enabler.you control your vistitor.Neat isn't

The only time I've seen this happen, it was caused by an objct placed
too close to the bed. Some objects have invisible, extended front or
back ends,(for example, a door, whose area extends one space away
from the wall on either side), can cause this to happen while not
appearing to be in the way. Try moving objects near the bed around.
If this is not caused by an object in the way, then it's a bug I've
never seen before. Hope this helps.
Sorry for my absence of late...
Between moving, keeping my GPA high, and helping other students do
the same, (I am a tutor and a student) I have had little time for the
Sims in general, much less this discussion group. Plus the "Sim time"
that I have had, has dis-enchanted me with this whole concept.
I'm guessing (hoping) that it is something I have downloaded that is
causing me some bugs, (and not the nature of the game itself), but
have little clue on how to isolate the offender. Maybe you folks have
heard of similar issues and their fixes:
1. Command Stacking - Put the game in Live mode, but on pause... Now
order a Sim to do something, then do something else, and yet another
thing too, etc... Many times when i give multiple commands in a
stack, the entire stack is suddenly "forgotten" and you have to
rebuild it. Once this bu has surfaced, I generally can not stack more
than 2 commands at any time before the whole stack is wiped.
Intrestingly, different sim charactors have different
levels/frequencies of forgetfulness. A game restart/machine reboot
does not solve the problem... Several times I have had to DESTROY
entire neigborhoods because of this. It seems to be the only fix.
2. High speed collisions - Turn on autonomy and let your Simmies do
their thing. Go for the highest speed setting and watch your Sims do
there thing real fast. Watch long enough and you will eventually
discover that two Sims are getting very upset, but are incapable (and
so are you) of doing anything about it. Normally, when two Sims
attempt to occupy the same spot, the software detects a "sprite
collision", and then diverts the paths of one or both sprites to
avoid them both being in the same spot. This could be a simple turn,
or a pause by one sprite, or they can bounce off of each other. But
sometimes when two Sims have a collision, it is apparently not
detected early/fast enough to avoid an actual intrusion into each
others "animation space". When this occurs, any attempt to move by
either Sim in any direction results in another collision being
detected and the movement stops. Essentially turning both Sims into
Siamese twins. Of course there is no animation for this, so they
still appear seperate, but they cannot move and will eventually lose
all needs points. If you eventually manage to free them (with the
incredibly unreliable move object cheat)they will immediately die due
to lack of food.
3. Permanent Bed Rest - This seems related to the above, in the sense
that a few Simmies have gotten stuck in bed. They are maxed out on
comfort and energy... sooo they wake up, and begin the animation for
getting out of bed. But they are stuck, they cannot rise from the bed
and will eventually lose all other needs points. A starving death
animation will fire-up as soon as you free them from the bed with the
move object cheat. Assuming you can get it to work.
I'm very disapointed with these issues. I'll admit it, I used to run
a pirated copy of the sims (on a trial basis trying to determine if
this would work for my studies) but as I ran into these problems more
and more often, I hoped that buying it would be the difference. But
it seems that the hacked version inherited the bugs from the retail
version... sigh.
Any help folks?
From what I've seen and experienced in the game. All sims are
stupid. It's individual programs, objects, FAR files, whateverthat
get's them moving. Personality's make them react to different
stimuli. Fire for example, makes them run into a room to dance and
panic next to the fire. Proof of the stupid part. Me? I'd be running
out of the house. Then there are "global" files, programs that allow
them to react in a predicted way. If you could make a program which
lets one interact with their sims directly, using the mouse to click
on for example, and depending how many times you click, results in
more irritation on the sims part. Good luck with the AI part, you
need intelligence first. It's all in a program.

An interesting discussion on Sims AI.

Have you tried contacting any of the original programmers from
Maxis?
I dont think the Sims have much of a brain in their heads as they
were written to be "played" with a lot of human input, but your idea
intregues me.
I will try some keyword searches of my own and let you know what I
find.

Nope no heads.... but the filling for those heads! <g>
I hope to eventually put up files (probably ones I create) that will give
your Sim some actual smarts...
Pet Peeve of mine...
This continuous floor pissing. Seems to me that a Simmie should be
able to LEARN not to eat three full plates of food without a hunger need,
while ignoring the bladder need.
I've noticed that when ever their are multiple chef's, everybody wants a
plate of the food made. Even if they are not hungry, they make more
than one trip for food, while ignoring the possibilty of a bladder problem.
Three plates after waking in the morning (without a first run to the
bathroom) is a near gaurentee for a mess.
Sure I could just go in there (where, I don't quite know yet) and just re-
write the code and prevent that from happening. But that's not what I'm
after.
After the Simmie has wet itself a few times in the same circumstances I
want it to "self-adjust" it's thinking(read: LEARN), so as to avoid those
same circumstances in the future.
From what I can tell, Simmies are completely reactionary... I wish to
make them proactive... give them the ability to actually PLAN for the
future.
Thanx to all of my new members!
Apologies that I can't thank all of you individualy, but
work/school/Simming leaves me little time!
So... anybody have the scoop on a Sims grey-matter? <g>
Hey,
Hehe im your first member, hehe im so special! :)
Well its me from Stuck Up Sims www.groups.yahoo.com/group/stuckupsims
Feel free to add your link to my link section, trust me it'll help in
getting your group noticed if you add your group link to other yahoo
sim groups! Well good luck, if you have any questions or need help
getting this group started post back to my group or email me
personally at stuckupsims-owner@yahoogroups.com
Emailing me personall is preferably better for me.
Well good luck again! What type of files you planning to add to your
group? heads?
Love,
Fifi from Stuck Up Sims
How do I CRANK the autonomy to full?
I've tried the cheat "autonomy_100", but I'd disagree that it results in
full autonomy. A sim only seems to do something when it has an actual
NEED to take care of.
If a sim has all green bars, they just stand (or sit) and whistle the day
away... don't these fools get bored?!?
I'd like to be able to walk away from the simulation and let it run without
my personal intervention... like for 12 hours at a time while I am at
work/school. And come back to a house that hasn't been half emptied
because the bill collector keeps showing up, 'cause no bills were payed!
Another thing I'd like is a different GUI (graphic user interface).
Right now we have the main "play screen" where we see all the
animations in Live mode, and a status area of a single particular simmie.
I'd like to see a family status board... no play screen, just a status area
for each sim all at once.. (read all eight sims) with ALL the stats shown
at the same time. Thier motivators, intrests, skills, relationships...
everything.
I guess that the best questions are the following...
How flexible is the game "The Sims"?
Is there alot of public information out there (un/official) on hacking the
game proper? (not just objects) Software hooks? Plug-ins?
LINKS PLEASE!
Instead of pestering my friend...
(and his install of the Sims on his machine)
Should I:
a. Decide that "The Sims" is workable for my aims and buy it and all of
the expansion packs?
-OR-
b. Realize that I have to write my own simulator?
