I think not making the elephants key would have this effect--kind of scythed
chariot like.
In our scenario as the Carthaginians bottled up his own troops it had one
accidental advantage. While one elephant was locked in melee, a unit of Roman
HI was fighting an inferior Carthaginian HI unit behind the elephants. The
ROmans overestimated the staying power of the Carthaginian elephant and when it
broke it took a unit of Roman HI with it.
