54 Jones is a tile-based game, which involves players fighting sewer denizens, each other and negotiate the complex maze of tunnels to avoid the sewage overflow and reach high ground.

In a post-apocalyptic future, 54 Jones is one of numerous ‘Jones Clones’ bred for the same unpleasant job in 12 Station City - sewer maintenance.

54, through many trials and tribulations, has succeeded in sinking to the bottom of the pile. Well, almost.

Here, on training day, 6 new Jones Clones are being instructed in the basics of sewer maintenance.

They will have to deal with a labyrinthine sewer complex that pumps the toxic and odious brown sludge of 12 Station City, known as shunk, up to the surface, the great sewer itself.

The sewer is ever-changing and is populated by genetic abnormalities (Shirkers), carnivorous plants (Cynthias), rat people (Ratoids) and not forgetting the Cockroach Kid.

Should they learn to manoeuvre the sewers, how to manipulate its tunnels, defeat their opponents, then perhaps, they might just make the grade, and even get 54 Jones’ job. Perhaps.

As he pulls the lever, the great wave of shunk begins to flow. The clones look confused. 54 Jones offers only one word of advice to his clones.

“Run.”
